“In 2002, the Town of Sylva transitioned to the Council-Manager form of government. Legislative functions fall in the hands of the Mayor and a five-member Board of Commissioners. The Mayor is elected every four years in a non-partisan election. Commissioners are elected every two years with the two highest vote recipients serving four years and the remaining three commissioners serving a two-year term. The Board hires a Town Manager to handle the day-to-day operations of the town and serves as the Chief Administrator.”

	Graduated from the University of Kansas - B.A. in History J.D. from Washburn School of Law. Eric has practiced law with Ridenour, Lay & Earwood since he graduated from law school in 1995, focusing on trial work. Eric is active in community activities including the North Carolina Community Foundation. He continues to participate in athletics through community football and basketball leagues. Eric lives in Sylva and has two children, Maris and Jack.
